Registration of an industrial design mostly ensures the exclusive right to use it, which allows its owner to earn a profit and recover the cost of developing and registering the design. Registration also protects the manufacturer against competitors copying or counterfeiting the design. A registered design is one of the company’s assets and thus increases its overall value.
