The active approach is taken by enterprises that protect as many intellectual property rights as possible. This strategy is often chosen by cosmetics producers, food producers, or producers of highly innovative products, e.g. in electronics, biotechnology, and pharmacology. An active strategy also often implies sharing the exclusive rights, e.g. through licensing.
This business model, although very common in highly developed countries, is still in its early stages in Poland. In Western European countries and the USA there are companies whose entire business strategies are based on paid or free licensing.
The active strategy is associated with high costs of protecting exclusive rights, but at the same time this strategy can generate the highest income.
